Baby’s Jumper and Headband (Issue 11)
Some lines were missing from this pattern - the full pattern is as follows...
To fit up to 50cm chest(approx. 3-6 months)
40cm head
one square measures 8.5cm
Cleckheaton Remo 8 ply yarn or similar yarn to give correct tension
2 balls main colour (green)
1 ball first contrast (yellow)
1 ball second contrast (blue)
1 ball third contrast (white)
Size 8 crochet hook
3 small buttons approx. 1.5 cm. in size
sewing needle
thread to match main colour
Jumper is made from squares which are joined with a whip stitch using matching sewing cotton.
Work a square to check tension. Change size of hook if necessary to get desired tension.
First square
With yellow ch.4. Join with a sl.st. to form a ring
Round 1 : Ch. 1, 8 dc. into ring. Join with sl. st to first dc.
Round 2 : Ch. 3, in same space as ch. (yoh, pull up a loop, yoh, draw hook thru 2 loops.) Repeat twice, yoh pull thru all 4 loops (small cluster made), ch.3. In next space* (yoh, pull up a loop, yoh, pull thru 2 loops ) 4 times(5 loops), yoh. draw thru all loops(cluster made), ch.3 Repeat from * 6 times, making a cluster in each space with 3 ch. between each.
Round 3 : Join white with sl.st. in any ch. 3 space. Ch. 3(2tr, ch 2, 3tr) in same space, 3tr in next 3ch. space, * (3tr, ch 2, 3tr.) in next sp. 3tr in next sp.. Repeat from * twice more. Join with sl. st to 3rd of 3 ch. at start.
Round 4 : Join green with sl. st to any ch.2. space. Ch.3 (2tr. ch 2, 3tr.) in same space, tr in next 9 st.,* (3tr, ch2, 3tr,) in next sp., tr. in next 9sts.. Repeat from* twice more. Join with sl. st to 3rd of 3 ch.. Fasten off.
Make a total of 10 squares with yellow flower( as above).
Make 11 squares with blue flower.
Make as for other blue flower squares but work Round 3(white) on only 3 sides. In Round 4 work a row of dc. only on side where Row 3 was omitted. This forms a slightly lowered neck edge.
Alternate colours of yellow and blue flowers when joining, placing centre front square in correct position. Squares are joined with right sides together. Join squares to form front body and sleeves and then back. With right sides together join side underarm and shoulder seams leaving shoulder seam opening for head of 7cm on one side.
With green work 2 rows of dc. evenly around bottom edge and sleeve edges.
Sew 3 buttons 1.5cm apart on back shoulder edge. Form buttonholes to correspond on front shoulder using spaces between trebles of final row of square and reinforcing them by hand with a butttonhole stitch.
With green ch.5
Row 1 : Miss 1 ch. 1dc in each ch. to end. Turn
Row 2 : Ch 1, 1dc in each dc. to end.
Repeat Row 2 till work measures 40 cm slightly stretched or size to fit.
Finishing
Join seam of headband . Work a flower from Rounds 1 and 2 of pattern. Attach it with a button in its centre to front of headband.
